Tweaking the Privacy Settings on Facebook has always been somewhat “tricky” to say the least. Now with the new Facebook Timeline, it can get even trickier to figure out who can see what on your Facebook Timeline.

Business Insider’s Ellis Hamburger demonstrates how you could check out your profile if viewed by a specific person or by the public. Hamburger goes further and shows you how to switch your old posts back to Friends only.

Interesting…I followed these instructions and when I use the “View As…” tool, it does appear that the old posts are no longer visible to the Public; however, when someone with whom I am not friends logs into Facebook, they can see the old posts. This is slightly disturbing to me. I get it that if I’m really protective of my privacy I can just kill my FB account, but I’m really just annoyed that FB is falsely making me think that information is not visible when it actually is.

Yeah, having Facebook has its benefits but at the same time…well for obvious reasons it does open up a lot of privacy concerns.

There are ways to hide individual posts from the Timeline but this has to be set manually ( http://cup.cake.to/xbkCOa ).

What’s also disturbing to me about Facebook is whenever ‘new’ changes roll about, we all have to find the privacy ‘holes’ ourselves – these ‘stealth’ privacy changes are tiring and Facebook is never completely explicit about these things.

As much as I’d like to use and decorate my Timeline, I think I’ll stick with the old Facebook until I’m forced to make the switch – in which case I’ll probably spent long hours fixing privacy settings for individual posts. /frustrated
