Apple vs Android vs Windows

Today, we feature a Guest Post by Amelia Hunter. She discusses the latest smartphones that may pose as the biggest contenders against the upcoming iPhone 5.

iPhone 5 Concept

The release of the iPhone 5 is widely believed to be hitting 2012, with Apple’s long drawn out development of the phone leaving many itching to see what they are preparing to wow the world with. However, despite the hype that the iPhone 5 will generate, it is expected that the year will still be a great one for other manufacturers. So, will any other phones be able to compete with the might of Apple in the smartphone market? We decided to have look at several phones that we feel could keep Apple on their toes.

Nokia Lumia 900

Firstly, let’s have a look at the latest model of Nokia’s breakthrough into the smartphone market, the Lumia 900. The Lumia series have been a groundbreaking development for Nokia, after failing continuously to break the smartphone market. At the CES 2012, they released the Lumia, which has gone even further in reviving Nokia’s fortunes in the mobile phone market.

Nokia Lumia 900

The phone sets itself apart from much of its competition through adopting an extremely user-friendly Windows operating system, which enables navigation through a tile system. This will please those who do not favor the Android style of OS, which runs on the majority of non-Blackberry devices and iPhones.

In terms of the hardware, many might be disappointed at the lack of a dual- or quad-core processor. However, Nokia recently claimed that this is deliberate due to dual- or quad-core CPUs not realistically adding to the speed of the phone. As it stands, the Lumia 900 operates extremely smoothly with large operations. Its 8-megapixel camera takes great photos up with the best smartphones, which will please those who place photo taking at the top of their priorities with phones.

All in all, the Lumia 900 is likely to add an extra dimension to the competition with the Apple iPhone 5, due to how different it is to the standard Android phones being released in the nearest future.

Huawei Ascend D Quad

Secondly, we have the Huawei Ascend D Quad, a phone that has received a great amount of attention since its announcement at the MWC in February. The Chinese technology giant has announced that it intends to lead the mobile phone market in three years’ time, and that it intends to do this through a fleet of smartphones to be released, with the Ascend D Quad being the first of those. Such a statement must surely be made towards Apple, which makes this phone important to keep an eye on in terms of competition with the iPhone 5.

Huawei Ascend Quad D Black

In terms of the phone’s attributes, it holds all that can be expected from a phone with ambition to be at the top of the smartphone pecking order. Its quad-core processor provides great speed, its 8-megapixel camera takes great photos, and its large screen creates excellent entertainment opportunities. All the assets it holds, along with its great look, put it at the cutting edge of mobile phone technology.

However, the question is whether by the time the iPhone 5 is released, these attributes will have faded slightly in an ever progressing market. However, we do feel that this phone is the strongest competitor for the iPhone 5, due to how advanced it currently is.

Finally, iPhone 5’s next competitor is the HTC One X. The HTC brand has been progressing steadily in recent years, and the release of the One X will result in further good fortunes for the HTC brand, if we assess correctly.

The One X holds a 1.5GHz quad-core processor that will certainly cause a ripple of excitement amongst HTC fans that have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of quad core processor abilities, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint, managing a variety of high level tasks with ease, and providing great media and gaming experience. The large 4.7-inch screen provides great opportunities to experience all that the processor has to offer, with the picture sharp and crisp. The phone looks good on top of this, with a variety of colors available for the back case, some of which look better than others. An 8-megapixel camera featured on the phone provides great photos and videos that can easily be enjoyed and edited on the phone with the new Android 4.0 operating system that the phone features.

The speed of the HTC One X, along with the qualities ICS can offer, could be what causes this phone to push the iPhone 5.
