The popular iOS social image app has been pegged at “Coming (Very) Soon” status for way too long – almost 1.5 years – and we recently reported that Instagram for Android will indeed be coming “Very Soon,” with a quote by Kevin Systrom (CEO, Instagram) in regards to the highly anticipated app.
The folks behind the app wanted to transfer the brilliant user experience provided with the iOS version onto the Android platform and it appears like they’ve achieved it.
Just like the Instagram on my iPhone 4S, the app is responsive and fluid on my 5.3″ Galaxy Note and yes, the app comes with the same image filters found on the iOS counterpart. It does appear, however, that this first version of the Android app will not include some of the exclusive features found on the iOS app such as Tilt Shift / Blur, Share from feed, Live Preview, and Share to Flickr; however folks at Instagram will to try to bridge any user experience gaps between the two platforms.
Instagram for Android is currently compatible with any phones running Android 2.2 or above; however unfortunately it’s not compatible with Android tablets for now.
