App Store developers rejoice! Apple recently launched a neat perk for its developers – a short “AppStore.com” vanity URL available for use for both iOS and Mac apps.
AppStore.com URL made its first grand appearance last night, during the Super Bowl ad spot for Paramount’s upcoming “Star Trek: Into Darkness” film. The commercial finished with a quick promotion to its iOS app, http://AppStore.com/StarTrekApp, sporting the brand new AppStore.com URL.
AppStore.com itself takes the users directly to the iTunes site, and developers are able to add whatever comes after AppStore.com. Apple updated its Apple Developer documentation on January 31 to reflect the changes, along with the following introduction:
You can also create easy-to-read links to your app using App Store Short Links, which use the AppStore.com base URL plus a specific form of your app or company name. This provides a simple way for users to find your apps on the App Store directly from your website or marketing campaigns. These short links are ideal for use in offline communications materials like print ads, TV spots, app trailers, radio ads and billboards.
Developers can now secure the vanity URL for their iOS and Mac apps when submitting, and further, they’re able to point the URL to their company’s webpage as well.
